What's shingles, what does it do? Is it contagious?

It is caused by the same virus as chicken pox and is very painful. It can hang on for a long, long time. It is contagious for the first week or so, but unfortunately by the time the rash appears you are already into it for several days. Go see a doctor anyway, you might need some help in coping with the discomfort.
