Will my wife's debt to the government affect my tax refund?

in past years before we were married my wife has had her tax refunds "intercepted" because of unpaid obligations to the government because of student loans. now that we are married, i was wondering if we file jointly will the government take all of the refund (even the taxes i paid) because she owes them? if that is the case would it be better to file married filing seperately or just file as single?
