First Time Self Tanning Help?

okay so today i bought the jergans express natural glow its close to a instant tanner but still gradient anyways. i heard u were supposed to exfoliate before u put it on and right after i put it on i remembered so its kind of too late. i made sure i rubbed it in reall well and i have been tanning almost everyday, my skin is in great condition no dry patches and is very moisturized do u think it will effect my tan? should i just exfoliate before i put it on tommorow. also if it comes off to dark how can i make it lighter?
